Torrey, Council President Pat Farr called the May 11, 1998, <br />meeting of the Eugene City Council to order at 7:30 p.m. <br /> <br /> I. CEREMONIAL MATTERS <br /> <br /> A. Tree City U.S.A. Award Presentation and Oregon Tree City of the Year Award <br /> Presentation <br /> <br />Eugene Urban Forester Scott Plamondon stated that the City of Eugene had been awarded <br />several tree-related honors. <br /> <br />Oregon Department of Forestry District Forester Rick Rogers announced that the City had <br />received the National Arbor Day Foundation Tree City U.S.A. Award in 1997 for its outstanding <br />Urban Forestry Program for the 19th consecutive year. He explained the criteria used to make <br />the award and presented a commemorative flag to President Fart. <br /> <br />Mr. Rogers described the National Arbor Day Foundation Growth Award. He said that Eugene <br />had received the award for its street tree planting and maintenance program and that it was the <br />8th consecutive year the City had received the award, every year it had been offered. He <br />presented a commemorative plaque to President Fart. <br /> <br />Mr. Rogers stated that Eugene had been chosen as the Oregon Tree City of the Year for 1997 by <br />the Oregon Urban and Community Forest Council. He explained that the award was recognition <br />that Eugene most exemplified the intent and spirit of the Tree City U.S.A. program.
