<br />RESOLUTION NO. 4746 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION NAMING THE RUTH BASCOM <br />RIVERBANK TRAIL SYSTEM. <br /> <br />The City Council of the City of Eugene finds that: <br /> <br />A. Ruth Bascom has for many years been one of the City's most active advocates with <br /> <br />respect to development of bicycle and walking trails throughput the City. Most notably: <br /> <br />She has shared with the community her visioQ. that development of the bicycle and <br /> <br />walking trails along the City's pristine riverba$s was a critical element of the City's <br /> <br />long-range bicycle-pedestrian trail system; <br /> <br />As Chair of the Eugene Bicycle Committee duting the early years of development of <br /> <br />the riverbank trail system she actively pursue<l opportunities to extend the system; <br /> <br />She was instrumental in gaining funding for the Greenway Bicycle Bridge, which is <br /> <br />centrally located within the trail system; <br /> <br />As Mayor, she continued to be supportive of the expansion and completion of the <br /> <br />riverbank trail system. <br /> <br />B. Although the riverbank trails in Eugene ha,* never been officially named, they <br /> <br />consist of the West Bank Trail, East Bank Trail, North Bank Trail, and the South Bank Trail. The <br /> <br />scheduled January 2003 completion of the East Bank Trail will signify the completion of a full loop <br /> <br />of trails approximately 9 miles long around the river betweem the Owosso Bicycle Bridge and the <br /> <br />Autzen Footbridge, <br /> <br />c. In recognition of the contributions of Ruth Bascom in achieving completion of this <br /> <br />Resolution - 1 <br />
