They left on October 2, 2005, on trip that <br />included visits with the mayors of the two sister cities, as well as a number of cultural and <br />educational institutions in Korea and Japan. A brief slide show will be presented. <br /> <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br />Eugene has four sister cities. The first was Jinju, Korea, established in 1961; next was Kathmandu, <br />Nepal in 1976. In 1979, a relationship with Kakegawa was created, and the newest sister city is <br />Irkutsk, Russia, established in 1989. <br /> <br />Each of these has a local volunteer committee which is responsible for arranging various exchanges <br />between Eugene and the sister city.
