Both incidents, which happened within 20 minutes of each other, were addressed <br />with skill and professionalism by Echo Hollow Pool personnel. The lifeguard staff assessed the situation <br />quickly and administered oxygen to each swimmer. Emergency Services was called and arrived at the <br />facility within five to seven minutes after each incident. <br /> <br />Echo Hollow Pool’s staff is to be commended for the sound execution of the Emergency Action Plan. <br />Exceptional leadership was displayed by Recreation employees Cortez Jordan, Roi Gershom, Evan <br />Mohr, and Willie Lewis. Recreation Service’s focus on safety, vigilance and training was a key factor in <br />the positive way these situations were handled. For more information, contact Aquatics Manager Rich <br />Fay at 682-5331. <br /> <br />Executive Manager Selected for National Leadership Program <br />Planning and Development Executive Manager Susan Muir has been selected to participate in the <br />International City/County Management Association (ICMA) Leadership Program. The new, intensive <br />two-year program is designed to cultivate key competencies needed for successful leadership at all <br />levels of local government management. Key competencies to be developed within “Leadership ICMA” <br />include: personal leadership; ethics and integrity; analytical skills; strategic planning; community <br />building; effective policy and administration; media relations; and organizational effectiveness. <br /> <br />ICMA is the leading organization for information on professional local government management. Its <br />membership includes city managers, county managers, and other chief appointed officials and assistants <br />in local governments throughout the world. ICMA’s mission is to create excellence in local government <br />by developing and fostering professional local government management worldwide. From the national <br />membership roll, only 13 individuals were selected to participate in the first ever ICMA leadership <br />program. <br /> <br />Muir, who has been with the City of Eugene for two years, was recently selected as Executive Manager <br />for the Planning and Development Department. She oversees a department of over 100 employees in <br />three divisions: Building and Permit Services, Community Development and Planning. <br /> <br />“This is a great opportunity for me to learn new skills and bring them back to the City of Eugene; I'm <br />really looking forward to participating in this." ICMA is a highly respected international organization,” <br />Muir said.
