WORK SESSION – COMMITTEE REPORTS AND ITEMS OF INTEREST FROM
MAYOR, CITY COUNCIL AND CITY MANAGER
Ms. Piercy reported that she had recently conducted another Mayor’s One on One event with Councilor
Poling on July 28, 2009, at the Albertson’s on Coburg Road, where they each fielded a variety of questions
and concerns from community members.
Mr. Zelenka noted he had attended the recent Fairmount Neighbors’ ice cream social event.
Ms. Taylor reported that she and Ms. Solomon had attended the recent meeting of the Human Services
Commission and had participated in discussions regarding the group’s funding options. She noted that
options to determine funding were based on 1) inflation plus population growth; 2) inflation only; 3) a
percentage of the general fund; or 4) a percentage of total taxes budgeted.
Ms. Taylor noted that she had recently attended a free performance of the Eugene Symphony at the
Cuthbert Amphitheater and found it very enjoyable. She encouraged the other council members and their
families to support the arts by attending events at the Cuthbert and other venues.
Ms. Taylor was glad to see that a recent grant application for the acquisition of areas along Amazon Creek
had been approved and hoped that the City would be able to enforce its ordinances regarding tree cutting on
the property until the City took control of those areas.
Ms. Taylor noted that a constituent had alerted her to the construction of a building at the intersection of
th
16 Avenue and Pearl Street and believed that the building might be in violation of certain local ordinances
regarding building height and parking space requirements.
Ms. Ortiz suggested that a volunteer participation day might be initiated by the Public Works Department
to deal with the over-growth of weeds along the north side of the Public Works property on Roosevelt
Avenue.
Ms. Ortiz noted that she had attended the Musicians Emergency Medical Association fundraiser at the
Sweet Cheeks Winery on July 26 and that it had been very well attended.

MINUTES—Eugene City Council July 29, 2009 Page 1
Work Session
