RESOLUTION NO. 5020
A RESOLUTION NAMING THE SUZANNE ARLIE PARK.
The City Council of the City of Eugene finds that:
A. In May 2008, the City of Eugene purchased 200 acres of land from Arlie &
Company to extend the Ridgeline Park system east from Mt. Baldy toward Lane Community
College.
B. On June 28, 2010, the Parks and open Space Division signed a non - binding
Letter of Intent with Arlie & Company indicating interest in acquiring an additional
approximately 315 acres of land south of Lane Community College, contiguous with the land
acquired from Arlie & Company in 2008, for use as a community park. The Letter of Intent
included as a requirement of the sale that the park be named after Suzanne Arlie.
C. The City of Eugene Naming Policy was adopted by the City Council on
September 27, 2010. In accordance with that Policy, on November 10, 2010, a news release was
issued and posted on the City's website advising that the City Council would accept public
comments until December 3, 2010, concerning the proposed naming of Suzanne Arlie Park, and
that the City Council would consider the matter on December 13, 2010.
D. Notwithstanding the naming requirement in the Letter of Intent, the City Council
recognizes that Suzanne Arlie has made significant contributions Eugene's parks and open space
system and to social services within the community, and that naming the park lands described in
this Resolution as the Suzanne Arlie Park is fitting recognition of her contributions.
NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EUGENE, a
Municipal Corporation of the State of Oregon, as follows:
Section 1 . Upon the City of Eugene's acquisition of the park land described in the
June 28, 2010 Letter of Intent, the City Council approves and adopts the name of Suzanne Arlie
Park as the official name of the park lands described in Findings A and B of this Resolution, and
more particularly depicted on the map attached as Exhibit A to this Resolution.
Section 2 . This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption.
The foregoing Resolution adopted the 13 day of December, 2010.
Deputy City Rec der
Resolution - Page 1 of 1
