Local <br />Organizing Committee (LOC) co-chairs Vin Lananna and Greg Erwin will be present to accept the <br />resolution and discuss the event with the council. <br /> <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br /> <br />The 2012 Olympic Trials were very successful and a tremendously constructive event for the <br />community in many ways. Hosting the Olympic Trials has immeasurable long-term positive impacts for <br />the community in economic benefit to the entire area, advancement of City goals related to <br />sustainability, positive youth development and accessibility, visibility on a national and international <br />stage that highlights the beauty and livability here, and gains in community pride and unity. <br /> <br />The Local Organizing Committee that developed and implemented Track Town 12 comprises partners <br />including the University of Oregon, Oregon Track Club, cities of Eugene and Springfield, Lane County, <br />the State of Oregon, Travel Lane County, Lane Transit District, Eugene Water & Electric Board, and the <br />Eugene and Springfield Chambers of Commerce, as well as many additional volunteers. Nike is a <br />significant and generous private partner. The LOC also works closely with USA Track and Field and the <br />US Olympic Committee to meet their needs as primary stakeholders. LOC co-chairs Lananna and <br />Erwin have skillfully led the Track Town USA collaborative effort for several years now and the City <br />wishes to express its appreciation for their commitment and dedication. <br /> <br /> <br />COUNCIL OPTIONS <br />The council may adopt or amend the resolution. <br /> <br /> <br />CITY MANAGER’S RECOMMENDATION <br /> <br />The City Manager recommends the City Council adopt the attached resolution. <br /> <br /> <br />SUGGESTED MOTION <br /> <br />Move to adopt Resolution 5071 in appreciation of the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Track & Field, <br />known as Track Town 12. <br /> S:\CMO\2012 Council Agendas\M120725\S120725A.doc <br />
