<br />ECC <br />UGENE ITY OUNCIL <br />AIS <br />GENDA TEM UMMARY <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Action: Appointment to Metropolitan Wastewater Management Commission <br /> <br />Meeting Date: January 28, 2013 Agenda Item Number: 2F <br />Department: Public Works Staff Contact: Michelle Cahill <br />www.eugene-or.gov Contact Telephone Number: 541-682-8606 <br /> <br /> <br />ISSUE STATEMENT <br />This is an action item to appoint one member to the Metropolitan Wastewater Management <br />Commission to fill a position with a term which will expire January 31, 2016. <br /> <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br /> The purpose of the Metropolitan Wastewater Management Commission is to act as the <br />governing and policy-making body for regional wastewater management activities. Seven <br />persons compose the commission, three of whom represent the city of Eugene: one elected <br />official and two citizen at-large members. The Mayor appoints the elected official and <br />nominates the citizen representatives for three-year terms. The City Council then votes on <br />the Mayor's citizen nominations. <br /> <br />The recruitment for the Metropolitan Wastewater Management Commission was initiated <br />in November 1, and concluded on December 31, 2012. There were three applicants. One of <br />the applicants is Walt Meyer, who is reapplying for his position. The MWMC General <br />Manager provided a letter of recommendation for Mr. Meyer. <br /> <br />The Mayor nominated Mr. Meyer for reappointment. <br /> <br /> <br />RELATED CITY POLICIES <br />The Metropolitan Wastewater Management Commission serves as an advisory body to the <br />City Council working under an intergovernmental agreement. <br /> <br /> <br />COUNCIL OPTIONS <br />The City Council has the following options: <br />1. Appoint the applicant who has been nominated; <br />2. Appoint someone else: <br />3.
