C. ITEMS OF INTEREST FROM MAYOR, CITY COUNCIL AND CITY MANAGER <br />Mayor Piercy reported on her upcoming One -On -One at the Delta Oaks Market of Choice, meeting the <br />presumptive new University of Oregon President, Michael R. Gottfredson, participating in U.S. Olympic <br />Track and Field Trials ceremonial events, and the "Let's Move Eugene" event at Amazon Pool. <br />Councilor Zelenka reported on the Sustainability Commission meeting and retreat, and commended the <br />Track and Field trials as a well -run event. <br />Councilor Ortiz reported on the Police Commission's discussion of budget issues, the Whitaker <br />Community Council meeting, and parking issues related to enterprise zone activity. <br />Councilor Pryor reported he had attended the Track and Field opening ceremony; taken a bike tour of <br />bicycle facilities in Ward 8, and attended the Lane Council of Government meeting which was George <br />Kloeppel's last as Executive Director. <br />Councilor Poling reported on the Mayor's One -On -One held in Ward 4, the recent Eugene Police <br />Department promotion ceremony, the Travel lane County Awards Dinner, the opening of Willakenzie <br />Crossing, and the Lane Transit District EmX Steering Committee meeting. <br />Councilor Clark expressed appreciation for the Olympic Trials event, and reported on the Northeast <br />Neighbors meeting at which the attendees discussed the interim use of undeveloped parkland. <br />Councilor Taylor suggested that unused parkland be converted in community gardens, and commended <br />the "Step into Poetry" display in the stairwells of the Overpark. Councilor Taylor asked staff for <br />information about regulations covering vacant houses that aren't being maintained. <br />Councilor Farr supported the creation of community gardens and announced that he had named Claire <br />Syrett to serve as the Ward 6 appointee to the Sustainability Commission. <br />Mayor Piercy reported on the dedication of the Officer Chris Kilcullen memorial garden at Willamette <br />High School, the Fire and Emergency Services graduation ceremony, and her participation in judging the <br />"most beautiful chicken contest." <br />Mayor Piercy adjourned the meeting at 7:08 p.m. <br />Respectfully submitted, <br />,Q ct.
