Mayor Large presided over the meetin ., <br />Councilmen present were: Messrs. Lamb, Reid, Bond, Carlson, Farrington, Hanns, Page, <br />and Koppe; absent, none. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />.l ;.f <br /> <br />1 <br /> <br />~~ The minutes of the previous meeting, February 14, 1939, were presented <br />~1 and ordered filed. <br /> <br />-.... <br />v. <br /> <br />Fred Lamb, Chairman of the Judiciary Committee, stated that it was the <br />recommendation of his Committee that Mr. A. T. Hall should cease peddling and to this <br />3 mandate Mr. Hall nad agree? <br />t <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />The $525.00. offer of F. M. Cashman on behalf of a client for Lot 5" Book <br />10, at the tiouthwest corner of Broadway and Van tsuren was rejected by the Finance <br />Committee and a counter-offer of $550.00 extended. Striker for client for Lot 7, Block 21, Hud- <br />dleston's Amended A~dition was accepted by the Finance Committee and approved by the <br />council. tClient: O~in Snellstroml <br /> <br />5 <br />,{ <br /> <br />o.ffer of Edith F. Gardiner for client in the amount of $550.0.0, $60.00 <br />down and$15.00 per month including interest, for property at 261 Jefferson Street, <br />was accepted on the condition that a payment of $110.00 down and $15.00 per month <br />plus interest be made. Upon motion made and seconded, this recommendation was duly <br />approved by the council. (Client: Ralph Vitus) . <br /> <br />6 <br /> <br />Mr. Hanns, Chairman of the Fire and Water Committee, recommended the in- <br />stallation of a street light at the corner of Fourth and Almaden Streets and it was <br />60 ordered by the council. <br /> <br />7 <br />1 <br /> <br />Sam Bond, chairman of the Police Committee, recommended that the request <br />of the Oregon Motor Stages, Inc. to abandon certain bus operations and commence new <br />8 ones within the city of Eugene be granted and it was so ordered. They are as follow: <br /> <br />Abandon: <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />, <br /> <br />6th street between Olive and Willamette <br />Olive Street between 6th and 7th Street <br />7th Street between Olive and Willamette <br />Franklin Boulevard between Villard and 11th <br />11th street between Franklin and Alder <br />14tp Street between University and Agate <br />Agate Street between 14th and 15th ,street <br /> <br />Commence: <br /> <br />13th st between Moss and Franklin Blvd. <br />On 15th Street between Willamette and Kincaid <br />On Kincaid between 15th St and 13th Street <br />On University between 14th and 15th Street <br />15th Street between University and Agate. <br /> <br />I The request of the Disabled Veterans of Foreign Wars for a beer license <br />during their annual convention with the local unit being the applicant and responsib e <br />r9 party, was duly approved by the Police Committee and action sustained by the council. <br /> <br />The Mountjoy and Carmichael request for a loading zone at the rear en- <br />trance of the building at 77 East Broadway, was disposed of as follows: That this <br />firm and the paint company are to use the curb cut granted to the Eugene Morning <br />10 News on a cooperative basis. <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />The application of Safeway Stores for a Class B License, was denied by, <br />the Police Committee and upon motion made aBd seconded, recommendation approved by <br />ill the councIl. <br /> <br />The Police Committee recommendation that one-hour parking signs be place <br />If in front of and on the west side of the court house, was unanimously approved. <br /> <br />Request of L. M. Watson for a wiaver of the zoning ordinance in regard t <br />the occupancy of a building he had commenced at 1224 Willamette street, was denied <br />by the Board of Appeals. Exception was taken by members of the council to this deni 1. <br />City Engineer Clubb stated that the occupancy of this building was in direct conf~ic <br />with the zoning ordinance. An ordinance amending Zoning Ordinance #8413 to allow <br />this particular type of occupancy for that building, was presented and had its first <br />reading, passed to its second ~nd third readings by unanimous consent of the council <br />bY title under suspension of the rule and was placed for final passage.
