Hamel, Mark Lindberg, Emily Schue, Betty <br /> Smith, Cynthia Wooten, John Ball, Brian Obie. <br /> COUNCILOR ABSENT: Gretchen ~1i 11 er <br /> A special meeting of the City Council of the City of Eugene, Oregon, was <br /> called to order by His Honor Mayor Gus Keller. <br /> 1. RESOLUTION CONCERNING THE EUGENE PERFORMH1G ARTS CENTER <br /> Mayor Keller introduced Ted Baker, Chairman, Board of Trustees, Eugene <br /> Arts Foundation, who presented background on the lengthy process of ar- <br /> riving at a performing arts center in Eugene from the initial idea to <br /> its comp 1 etion . Mr. Baker noted several areas of involvement and invited <br /> those in the "audience who participated to stand for recognition. t.1r. Baker <br /> then announced that Nils and Jewel Hult had made a charitable gift of <br /> $3 million to the Eugene Arts Foundation. The income from $2.5 million of <br /> this amount will establish an endowment to provide funding"assistance in <br />e perpetuity for the City's Performing Arts Center to help assure the con- <br /> tinuity of superb programming, maintenance, and accessibility to the Center <br /> for all of Eugene's citizens. By this act, and in accordance with Res- <br /> olution * 3454 passed December 17, 1980, Mr. Baker announced that the <br /> Eugene Performing Arts Center is to be re-named the Hult Center for the Per- <br /> forming Arts. <br /> Res. No. 3718--A:reso1ution Naming the Eugene Performing Arts <br /> Center the Hu1t Center for the Performing Arts. <br /> Mr. Obie moved, seconded by Ms. Schue, to adopt <br /> the resolution. Roll call vote; motion carried <br /> unanimously. <br /> Mayor Keller thanked the Hult family on behalf of the citizens of Eugene <br /> and invited Nils Hult to say a few words.
