The trip was from August 18 – August 30, 2006, and <br />included meetings with Irkutsk city officials, hospital administrators, and educators, and visits to <br />industrial and utility sites and the world famous Lake Baikal. A brief slide show will be presented. <br /> <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br />Eugene has four sister cities. The first was Jinju, Korea, established in 1961; next was Kathmandu, <br />Nepal in 1976. In 1979, a relationship with Kakegawa was created, and Eugene’s newest sister city <br />is Irkutsk, Russia, established in 1989. <br /> <br />Each of these has a local volunteer committee which is responsible for arranging various exchanges <br />between Eugene and the sister city.
