<br />M I N U T E S <br /> <br /> <br />Eugene City Council <br />State of the City <br />Hult Center for the Performing Arts—One Eugene Center <br /> <br /> January 4, 2007 <br /> 5:30 p.m. <br /> <br />COUNCILORS PRESENT: Jennifer Solomon, Andrea Ortiz, Betty Taylor, Bonny Bettman, George <br />Poling, Chris Pryor, Alan Zelenka, Mike Clark. <br /> <br /> <br />I. WELCOME AND INTRODUCTIONS <br /> <br />City Council President Jennifer Solomon called the meeting of the Eugene City Council to order and <br />welcomed those present to the annual State of the City event. She welcomed the many elected officials from <br />other jurisdictions in attendance. <br /> <br /> <br />II. MUSICAL SELECTION <br /> <br />Those in attendance heard a musical selection, “How Can I Keep From Singing?” performed by the City <br />Singers under the direction of Maureen Robeson. <br /> <br /> <br />III. RECOGNITION OF OUTGOING CITY COUNCILORS <br /> <br /> <br />Mayor Piercy recognized outgoing councilors David Kelly and Gary Papé for their service to the commu- <br />nity. <br /> <br /> <br />IV. ADMINISTRATION OF OATH OF OFFICE <br /> <br />City Recorder Mary Feldman administered the oath of office to returning councilors George Poling and <br />Jennifer Solomon and to incoming councilors Mike Clark and Alan Zelenka. <br /> <br />Mr. Zelenka thanked Mr. Papé and Mr. Kelly for their work and Mr. Kelly for his support and hard work on <br />the council. He thanked those who voted for him, his campaign committee, and his wife Susie Smith. He <br />was thrilled to be the councilor representing Ward 3 and “proud to be a progressive in Eugene.” He hoped <br />to focus on environmental protection and sustainability; on smart growth and increased density, livability, <br />and neighborhood protection; and on a fair and open City government that “put the people’s interests above <br />special interests.” <br /> <br />Mr. Clark thanked Mr. Papé and Mr. Kelly for their service on the council and assistance to him. He <br />thanked friends and supporters who encouraged him in his race. He acknowledged his parents, who had <br />come from Portland for the event.
