MINUTES <br /> <br /> Eugene City Council <br /> Regular Meeting <br /> Council Chamber--City Hall <br /> <br /> May 8, 2000 <br /> 7:30 p.m. <br /> <br />COUNCILORS PRESENT: Pat Farr, David Kelly, Bobby Lee, Scott Meisner, Nancy Nathanson, <br /> Gary PapS, Gary Rayor, Betty Taylor. <br /> <br />Mayor James D. Torrey called the meeting to order. <br /> <br /> I. CEREMONIAL MATTERS <br /> <br />Mayor Torrey proclaimed the month of May as "Leave a Legacy Month." He encouraged all <br />citizens to join in its observance. <br /> <br />Mayor Torrey introduced Mark Snyder, Eugene's Urban Forester, who introduced Bob Johnson, <br />Oregon Department of Forestry, who provided a presentation of the "Tree City Award" to the City <br />of Eugene. He noted that 1999 was the 21st year that Eugene had won the award. He also noted <br />that Eugene had earned the growth award. Mayor Torrey accepted the awards on behalf of the <br />City. <br /> <br />Mr. Snyder expressed his pleasure in participating in the well-deserved recognition of <br />"NeighborWoods" volunteers who had helped in tree plantings in the City. Mr. Snyder said that <br />NeighborWoods was an outstanding nationally recognized program. He introduced Chris Gerard, <br />the NeighborWoods coordinator, who said that over 500 new street trees had been planted by <br />NeighborWoods volunteers for the urban forest. He noted that the trees would be watered and <br />maintained by NeighborWoods volunteers for the next three years. He added that <br />NeighborWoods had planted over 6400 trees in the community to date. <br /> <br />The councilors introduced the volunteer recipients for their wards. <br /> <br />For Ward 1, Councilor Rayor introduced Nancy Ellenlocke, Randy Free and Bar Washburn. He <br />noted that 61 trees had been planted in Ward 1. <br /> <br />For Ward 2, Councilor Taylor introduced Kim Smith, Jeff Lanza, and Dennis Lueck. She noted <br />that the volunteers had planted 75 trees in Ward 2. <br /> <br />For Ward 3, Councilor Lee introduced John Klein, Daron Henry, and Tas Siezman.
