The commission will provide a brief update on its accomplishments during FY05 and will highlight key work items for FY06. The commission also plans to identify several emerging issues for discussion at the meeting. The City Council will be asked to review and approve the work plan. BACKGROUND The City Council and the Human Rights Commission (HRC) convene an annual meeting to review the work of the commission and discuss human rights issues in the community. The last meeting was held on July 26,2004. The commissioners are asking the City Council to consider the approval of a FY06 work plan that will carry the commission through the remainder of the current fiscal year. The Human Rights Commission is directed by the City Council and its goals of creating a safe community where people feel secure and respected and of enhancing a local government that works openly and respectfully with and for the community. There are no financial considerations in the review of this work plan. However, the hours contributed by volunteers offer a sizable resource to the City. In addition to any items the City Council wishes to discuss, the commission plans to address the highlights of the commission's FY 2005 efforts, including: . Work of the standing committees; and .
