After a three-year hiatus,
funding was reinstated in FY07 for $50,000 per year, funding an additional 22 projects. Since FY2000,
over $350,000 in matching grants have funded 69 projects spread among the 19 neighborhood
associations.

The Department Advisory Committee held two meetings in February FY09 in which public comment
was received and applicants were provided an opportunity to respond to questions about their proposals.
Nine proposals were reviewed and ranked by the committee. One proposal was dropped from
consideration due to insufficient documentation.

The eight proposals identified in the attachment, totaling $49,557 in grant requests, are recommended for
funding for 2009. One of the eight projects, Spring Creek Natural Gardens, is recommended for
approval by May1, 2009, contingent on completion of the current phase of the project, funded by a 2008
Neighborhood Matching Grant.

RELATED CITY POLICIES
This initiative is consistent with the council’s Neighborhood Empowerment Initiative and supports the
following priorities identified in the Neighborhood Action Plan:
?

Implement Neighborhood Matching Grants
?

Promote Neighborhood Identity
