Fowler is the author of six previous novels, including the New York Times bestseller “The Jane Austen Book Club,” and
three short story collections. Her novel “Sister Noon” was a finalist for the 2002 PEN/Faulkner Award for fiction. Her short
story collection “Black Glass” won the World Fantasy Award in 1999, and her collection “What I Didn’t See” won the World
Fantasy Award in 2011.

Fowler’s visit is part of the third annual Northwest Women Writers Symposium sponsored by UO Center for the Study of
Women in Society in cooperation with Eugene Public Library. The 2014 theme is "Family, Animal, Story." Free events,
including panel discussions and writing workshops, will be held at the University of Oregon and the Downtown Eugene
Public Library.

For more information, contact the Eugene Public Library at www.eugene-or.gov/library or 541-682-5450.

Adult and Senior Classes Offered at Campbell Center
Fraud Prevention for Seniors, Quality Medical Tourism, and Understanding Reverse
Mortgages are the topics of three upcoming presentations at Campbell Community
Center. They are typical of the kind of presentations held almost weekly at Campbell.
Each presentation provides information that is useful to adults and seniors – from
serious health and financial issues, to fun topics such as Turning Trash to Treasure,
Culture Explorations or how to “Can The Clutter.” By far the most popular presentation
for the Baby Boomer crowd, and the one that is repeated monthly, is “So, You’re Going
on Medicare.”

From learning how to use a smart phone to birding at home, the presentations provide
useful information for free to help adults maintain their health, independence, social
connections, support networks and quality of life. For more information about this and
other programs and activities at Campbell Center, contact Recreation Manager Diane
Sconce at 541-682-5318.

EUGENE CITY COUNCIL NEWSLETTER PAGE 3
April 24, 2014
