HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION CURRENT MEMBERSHIP DESCRIPTION The Human Rights Commission advises the City Council on issues relating to the equality of opportunity to Eugene residents. Th Commission works with the State Bureau of Labor and other govemmental agencies to receive, refer, and investigate specific acts of discrimination in the community. It makes recommendations to the City Council to affirm, encourege, and initiate programs and services designed to effectuate the spidt and intent of federal, state, and municipal legislation prohibiting discrimination and to improve human relations within the city. MEMBERSHIP There are 14 citizens and one elected official on the Human Rights Commission. TERM Terms are for three years; the mayor may appoint the elected official on an annual basis. APPOINTMENT The City Council appoints the citizen members; the mayor appoints the elected official.
