OREGON CULTURAL RESOURCE INVENTORY <br /> CITY OF EUGENE <br /> <br /> HISTORIC NAME: BETA THETA PI FRATERNITY T/R/S# 17 3 32 NW 1/4 SW 1/4 <br /> ADDRESS: 1009 PATTERSON ST TAXLOT: 7500 <br /> <br />1009 Patterson was built in 1923 as the Beta Theta Pi fraternity <br />house, for a projected cost of SZ0,000, and remains so today. Its <br />original address, changed in 1925, was 995 Patterson. The national <br />fraternity was formed in 1839 and the local chapetr was formed in <br />1909. Ken Kesey, nationally prominent and local author, 'belonged <br />to this fraternity while he attended the University of Oregon, <br />Repairs were made in 1935 and a major wing was added on the <br />south side in the 1960's.
