Draft 9/29/14 <br />B.Metropolitan Goals <br />The following Metropolitan Goals are listed under the applicable section in this chapter or in <br />Chapter III (Metro PlanElements) and Chapter IV (Metro Plan Review, Amendments, and <br />Refinements). <br />Growth Management <br />1. Use urban, urbanizable, and rural lands efficiently. <br />2. Encourage orderly and efficient conversion of land from rural to urban uses in response <br />to urban needs, taking into account metropolitan and statewide goals. <br />3. Protect rural lands best suited for non-urban uses from incompatible urban encroachment. <br />Residential Land Use and Housing <br />1. Provide viable residential communities so all residents can choose sound, affordable <br />housing that meets individual needs. <br />Economic <br />1. Broaden, improve, and diversify the metropolitan economy while maintaining or <br />enhancing the environment. <br />Environmental Resources <br />1.Protect valuable natural resources and encourage their wise management and proper use and <br />reuse, reflecting their special natural assets. <br />2. Maintain a variety of open spaces within and on the fringe of the developing area. <br />3. Protect life and property from the effects of natural hazards. <br />4. Provide a healthy and attractive environment, including clean air and water, for the metropolitan <br />population. <br />Willamette River Greenway, River Corridors, and Waterways <br />1. Protect, conserve, and enhance the natural, scenic, environmental, and economic qualities <br />of river and waterway corridors. <br />Environmental Design <br />1. Secure a safe, clean, and comfortable environment which is satisfying to the mind and <br />senses. <br />II-B-1 <br />
