<br />An on-line open house launched at www.envisioneugene.org on Dec. 12. The website provides information about, and
<br />maps of, the proposed expansion areas, as well as an online survey to collect community input. The community is invited to
<br />review and provide feedback on the preliminary recommendation.

<br />An in-person open house for community members to ask questions and share feedback will be held Jan. 13 from 4 - 6 p.m.
<br />in the Atrium Lobby, at 99 West 10th Avenue. The City Council will also hold a public comment period to hear from

<br />Winter Break for Kids and Teens at Eugene Public Library
<br />During winter break, kids are invited to all locations of the Eugene Public Library to learn about and meet live exotic
<br />animals from around the world, provided by Zany Zoo. Join in the fun on Saturday, Dec. 27, at 11 a.m., at the Sheldon
<br />Branch Library, at 2 p.m., at the Bethel Branch, or on Tuesday, Dec. 30, at 1 and 3 p.m.
<br />at the Downtown Library. (For the Downtown Library only: pick up free tickets starting
<br />30 minutes before each event.)

<br />Teens, come “Create a Hat” on Tuesday, Dec. 30, at 4 p.m., at the Downtown Library.
<br />Fiber artist Mari Livie will lead this hands-on workshop to make felted wool hats.
<br />Participants will learn how to make and cut the pattern and assemble the pieces, then
<br />decorate to their individual tastes.

<br />Starting Jan. 2, middle- and high-school students can apply for the winter session of
<br />Teen Team, members of which volunteer at the Downtown Library. This session of
<br />Teen Team will meet on Tuesdays, from 4 to 5 p.m., from Jan. 27 through Mar. 17.
<br />Teens volunteer together to help staff prepare items for check out, set up craft projects for kids’ programs, create displays,
<br />clean and organize books, and more.

<br />Campaign Invites Planners to “Book an Accessible Venue”
<br />Travel Lane County (TLC) is currently running a print and television advertising campaign that highlights Eugene’s
<br />commitment to accessibility. The ads are aimed at people who plan meetings and conventions, inviting them to learn how
<br />Eugene can help them with the all-important accessibility and inclusion issues they face.
<br />
<br />Eugene’s Spencer Butte Challenge Course, operated by Eugene’s Recreation Division,
<br />is featured in the ads. In one ad, a woman who uses a wheelchair is among a group
<br />participating in team-building activities intended to improve the communication
<br />skills, trust and functioning of the group. In this 30-second television ad, the woman
<br />is hoisted to a high platform among the trees in the Challenge Course. A similar
<br />
<br />scene is used for the print ads.

<br />The ads invite meeting planners to “Book an accessible venue, build a skilled team,
<br />rise to the challenge.” The TLC website provides more details about Eugene’s
<br />accessible transportation, lodging and recreation, and includes a webinar presented
<br />by local accessibility experts, City of Eugene Senior/Adult and Adaptive Recreation
<br />Services Section Manager Andy Fernandez, with Janis Ross, vice president of
<br />convention and sports marketing for TLC.
<br />
<br />Organizations, clubs and work groups can book the Spencer Butte Challenge Course for a team-building event designed
<br />specifically for their group. Between 70 and 80 groups use the Spencer Butte Challenge Course annually, primarily in the
<br />summer, late spring and early fall. Indoor team-building exercises are an option any time of year.
