Council Chambers <br /> <br /> The interior of the Council Chambers includes a recently installed suspended ceiling <br /> (Figure 2-8). Installation details were not available, but due to its recent installation (post <br /> year 2000), it is assumed that it was designed and installed for seismic loads consistent <br /> with Z=0.3g - this should be validated under f'mal design. The vertical timber colunms <br /> seen in Figure 2-8 are assumed to be non-structural, with load bearing support for the <br /> roof system being provided by steel (concrete?) columns within the wood veneer of some <br /> (or all) of the main columns. The lateral resistance for the structure is provided primarily <br /> by the lightly-reinforced masonry block walls in the exterior and the (assumed) <br /> reinforced concrete walls at the second circular level, coupled with reinforced concrete <br /> roof diaphragms. <br /> <br /> Figure 2-8.
