M I N U T E S Eugene City Council City Council Meeting Council Chamber—Eugene City Hall March 13, 2006 7:30 p.m. COUNCILORS PRESENT: Jennifer Solomon, Andrea Ortiz, David Kelly, Gary Papé, George Poling, Chris Pryor, Bonny Bettman. COUNCILORS ABSENT: Betty Taylor. Her Honor Mayor Kitty Piercy called the meeting of the Eugene City Council to order. She announced that due the number of people who wished to testify for the public hearings on Resolutions 4861, 1038, and 4862, the public hearing for Resolution 4863 approving the Parks, Recreation, and Open Space Project and Priority Plan would be postponed. 1. CEREMONIAL MATTERS - Presentation of Sister City Gift Tom Bickel, manager of the Kakegawa Education Center of Oregon – a Sister City-owned farm in Junction City - explained that Kakegawa presented a painted manhole cover to the City of Eugene. He read into the record the letter of presentation that accompanied the gift, written by the Mayor of Kakegawa. Mayor Piercy introduced three visitors from Tokyo, Japan who were in the audience and welcomed them to Eugene. - Recognition of Eugene Airport Employee Mike Coontz Bob Wells, City Manager for the City of Salem, thanked Eugene for lending Airport employee Mike Coontz to the Salem Airport while its airport administrator fulfilled his military duty in Iraq. He reported that Salem Airport Administrator Alan Alexander had returned safely. He introduced a delegation of four people from Salem who had come to honor Mr. Coontz’s service and read a proclamation signed by the Salem Mayor and City Council into the record. Mayor Piercy said, on behalf of the council and staff, that all were honored to have the delegation from Salem present. She thanked them for taking the time to present the proclamation and that it was an honor to have Mr. Coontz as part of the City organization and the community.
