City Staff and Partners Collaborate to Make Presidential Visit Safe and Successful <br />President Barack Obama visited the Eugene Airport on Oct. 9 on his way to Roseburg to help comfort grieving families and <br />the community in the wake of the tragedy at Umpqua Community College. Mayor Kitty Piercy was honored to greet the <br />President at the airport. Senators Jeff Merkley andRon Wyden, and <br />Congressman Peter DeFazio also travelled with the President. <br /> <br />Accommodating the visit, including the arrival and departure of Air Force <br />One, Marine One, and other supporting aircraft, was a huge undertaking by <br />City of Eugene staff, business partners on the airfield, and community <br />partners. Participating staff were from the Eugene Airport, Eugene Police <br />Department, Central Services - including the City Manager’s Office, Public <br />Works Maintenance, and Eugene Springfield Fire Department.
