The program provides many opportunities for these veterans <br />and their families to stay active, including: sailing, hiking, trapshooting, archery, dragon boat racing, rafting, rock-climbing, <br />snowshoeing, kayaking, cycling, and swimming. <br /> <br />During the past year, Adaptive Recreation Services has also: <br /> <br /> <br />Supported the Heroes 2 Oregon Dragon Boat Paddle Challenge, with 16 teams of 10 people each, paddling dragon <br /> <br />boats and raising $9,523 to allow veterans to participate in recreation activities for free; <br /> <br />Partnered with National Alliance For Mental Illness (NAMI), providing social events for more than 100 veterans <br /> <br />and their family members; <br /> <br />Sent five injured and disabled veterans to the VA National Veterans Summer Sports clinic in San Diego where they <br /> <br />learned sailing, kayaking, surfing, cycling, <br />archery and rowing; <br /> <br />Provided 12 adaptive bicycles for <br /> <br />veterans to try at Heroes in Summer in <br />Redmond; <br /> <br />Brought two veterans to say the <br /> <br />Pledge of Allegiance at the City Council <br />Meeting on Nov. 10, 2014, and <br /> <br />Contributed to the Department of <br /> <br />Housing and Urban Development’s <br />Veteran Affairs Supportive Housing (HUD- <br />VASH) program, by providing recreation <br />activities during the annual picnic <br />attended by 75 veterans who are homeless <br />or have transitioned into housing. <br /> <br />For more information, visit the City of Eugene Recreation Veterans Page or watch the Working City Video. <br /> <br />Eugene Voters: “Yes” for Library Levy <br />On Nov. 3, 2015, City of Eugene voters approved Measure 20-235 to fund expanded Eugene Public Library services for five <br />years starting in July 2016. The funds will provide increased hours, free programs, and materials and technology at all <br />Eugene Public Library locations: Downtown, Bethel, and Sheldon. <br /> <br />According to Library Director Connie Bennett, “All of us at Eugene Public Library look forward to this opportunity to do <br />more for the community. We thank the voters for this support of the Library.
