Bikeways <br />These standards address ori -street bicycle facill- <br />ties: See separate standards'at end of document <br />.for off-street bicycle path and accessway facility' <br />requirements: <br />Design Guidelines <br />1) Striped bicycle lanes are the preferred bikeway <br />design choice for arterial and major collector <br />streets to provide a high level of mobility for <br />bicyclists. Ashared roadway generally is sufficient <br />for Neighborhood Collector streets. <br />2) An interconnected street system is an impor- <br />tant factor in providing convenience and conti- <br />nuity of travel for bicyclists. <br />3) On -street bicycle lanes and off-street paths <br />will be constructed in those locations indicated <br />in adopted plans.* <br />4) Bicycle signing and pavement markings <br />should be consistent throughout the bikeway <br />system per the 1995 Oregon Bicycle and Pedes- <br />trian Plan guidelines. <br />5) Curb inlets are the preferred design option for <br />storm water facilities. Where installation of curb <br />inlets is not possible, catch basins with approved <br />bike -proof covers are an acceptable alternative. <br />(See Figure 3 ) <br />6) Avoid designing continuous right turn lanes <br />on major streets with bicycle lanes. <br />* Striped bicycle lanes will be added to existing <br />arterial and major collector streets which are <br />already improved to urban standards only in <br />cases where such bike lane projects on specific <br />streets are included in the adopted TransPlan. <br />On -street bike lanes <br />provide a high level of <br />mobility for bicyclists <br />11 <br />
