Raised Median Design Standards <br />1) Standards for raised medians are the same for <br />both arterial and collector streets. <br />2) The preferred raised median width is 10' <br />when used to limit land access or control turning <br />Figure 5 <br />movements. The minimum width of medians <br />used for this purpose shall be 4'. (See Figure 5). <br />3) Medians used as a pedestrian refuge shall be <br />a minimum of 6' in width to enhance pedestrian <br />safety. (See Figure 6). Medians used as a pedes- <br />trian refuge or to facilitate pedestrian and <br />bicycle movements shall be designed with at - <br />grade cuts at all intersections. <br />Figure 6 <br />0�; <br />/�Prr-Weifts�1 <br />4) The preferred raised median width for provi- <br />sion of turning bays is 14'; the minimum width <br />for this type of median is 12'. <br />5) Raised medians shall be designed at standard <br />(6") curb height. <br />21 <br />
