bars shall be placed in all joints. Panels adjacent to concrete curb and gutter or curb shall <br />be tied to the gutter, or curb in absence of a gutter, with deformed tie bars. Dowel and <br />tie bar sizes and placement shall be as per the Standard Drawings. Joint reinforcement is <br />not required for alleys except as required by the pavement design. <br />If aggregate base is not required as a working platform per the pavement design a leveling <br />course of a minimum of 2 inches of compacted 3/4 inch -minus crushed rock shall be <br />placed before the concrete pavement is poured. <br />Requirements, limitations and provisions for a working platform for construction shall be <br />as described above in the AC subsection. <br />(See Appendix E for Alley Paving Standard Detail) <br />T. Planting Strips <br />In situ topsoil shall be preserved and protected in place when possible. A minimum <br />depth of 2 feet of topsoil meeting the requirements of the Standard Specifications shall <br />be placed within the planting strips where compaction, excavation, contamination or <br />disturbance is expected. An 18" depth of topsoil may be allowed at lateral utility <br />crossings. The planting strip is the area between the back of curb and the existing or <br />proposed future sidewalk location. The cross sections shall identify the planting strip <br />areas and provide callouts directing their protection and/or replacement. <br />U. Private Streets <br />Private streets, and related features such as drainage systems and street lighting, shall be <br />privately maintained and identified as such on the construction drawings. As with other <br />private construction, a PEPI permit does not authorize construction of private streets nor <br />its infrastructure. Construction permits for private streets and its infrastructure is through <br />the Permit and Information Center, Atrium Bldg. 99 West 10th Avenue. <br />V. Superelevation <br />Superelevation shall be designed in accordance with AASHTO design standards. <br />W. Taper Lengths <br />Standards for streets that provide a transition from a wider to a narrower street <br />(especially for through -streets) are as follows: <br />1.
