ECC UGENE ITY OUNCIL AIS GENDA TEM UMMARY Work Session: Recruitment for City Manager Position Meeting Date: December 3, 2007 Agenda Item Number: B Department: Central Services Staff Contact: Alana Holmes www.eugene-or.gov Contact Telephone Number: 682-5765 ISSUE STATEMENT This is a work session to discuss the recommendations from the council committee working to address the issues and processes for the recruitment and hiring of a new city manager. The members of the committee will present recommendations on a number of items to the full council for further discussion and eventual agreement. BACKGROUND The committee met on November 28, 2007, to review a number of items related to the interview process including questions for interviews, composition of the interview panels, opportunities for community involvement and the itineraries for the candidates during the interviews. The committee members previously met during the summer and early fall to develop recommendations related to the job description, search criteria and specific content issues. Some of these meetings were with the executive recruiter hired by the City to conduct this search, Bob Neher of Bennett Yarger Associates. The deadline for submittal of applications for the position of city manager was Friday, November 23, 2007. The applications for the position will not specifically be reviewed at this meeting; this discussion is related to the interview procedures and processes. RELATED CITY POLICIES This work item relates to the council vision of an effective and accountable municipal government. COUNCIL OPTIONS The council may: Accept the recommendations of the committee; or ? Revise the recommendations of the committee. ?
