Round rooms are terrible for acoustics. <br /> Round tables, but room could be any shape. Sound issues with round. <br />Visual problems with circular. Lack of clarity about front. <br /> Round table. Break notion of us against them with raised dais, etc. But <br />function is primary—acoustics. <br /> Do you have problems with current Council Chamber? <br /> YES <br /> Inadequate space in Chamber now. Have expandability/adjustability in <br />new chamber. Different size audiences—variable capacity. Not one-use <br />room. Flexibility. Raised dais allows Reps to see who is testifying. <br /> Not cheap version of making room smaller. Good soundproofing. <br /> Pillars and supports under council chambers, if made on 2nd floor, would <br />be a hazard for sight-impaired. <br />nd <br /> The scheme that puts Council Chamber on the 2 floor involves a lot of <br />extra travel. <br /> Symbolic value to have chamber on ground floor. Streetscape could give <br />view into Chamber. <br /> We’ve heard a lot of call to break physical barriers between service and <br />citizen and address the power issues with architecture. <br /> The new Federal Court--the whole “being above” makes me bristle. <br /> New Federal Court restrooms are ineffective for scooters. Meets code but <br />not practicality. Applaud the Kakegawa City Hall idea. Look at design <br />elements of other three sister city halls—maybe you can carry design <br />element from each. <br /> All of us invited here think that every meeting room needs to be looped <br />(for sound). <br /> What spaces get used most of the time by more people—put that where <br />you can get to it easier. <br /> What’s the next step for us? <br /> Design goes to council in December and back to the public in early 2008. <br />If council decides to go for a bond measure in November 2008 and it <br />passes, they decide on the project budget. Access and sustainability are <br />things which will make the project successful—but it must be done cost <br />effectively.
