<br />M I N U T E S <br /> <br /> <br />Eugene City Council <br />Work Session <br />McNutt Room – City Hall <br />777 Pearl Street—Eugene, Oregon <br /> <br /> February 20, 2008 <br /> Noon <br /> <br />COUNCILORS PRESENT: Andrea Ortiz, Chris Pryor, Betty Taylor, Bonny Bettman, George Poling, <br />Mike Clark, Jennifer Solomon, Alan Zelenka. <br /> <br /> <br />Her Honor Mayor Kitty Piercy called the work session of the Eugene City Council to order. <br /> <br /> <br />A. ACTION: <br /> Appointment of City Manager <br /> <br /> <br />Assistant City Manager Scott Luell stated that this was the culmination of all of the work that had gone into <br />the hiring process for the City Manager position. He said this motion presented the opportunity to authorize <br />the council President to sign the final agreement with Jon Ruiz. <br /> <br />Mr. Pryor, seconded by Ms. Bettman, moved to authorize the council President to sign the <br />final employment agreement with Jon Ruiz as presented to the Mayor and City Council and <br />to appoint Jon Ruiz as the City Manager of Eugene. <br /> <br />Several councilors indicated they had not received the final document and copies were provided. <br /> <br />Ms. Bettman indicated she would oppose the motion. She reiterated her feeling that Mr. Ruiz was not the <br />best choice for the community. She said the council should not “pretend” to have unanimity on a “hotly <br />debated decision.” <br /> <br />Ms. Ortiz noted that she originally had not supported the hiring of Mr. Ruiz.
