<br />be a threat to the Council’s Homelessness Initiative and the Police Initiative, which seeks to increase <br />police staff with a special focus on supporting community policing and reducing property crime. <br /> <br /> <br />COUNCIL OPTIONS <br /> <br />The council and Budget Committee can take any action from doing nothing to funding all or a portion of <br />the effects of the County reductions to the City of Eugene. Any such action will require changes to the <br />budget recommended by the City Manager presently under consideration by the Budget Committee. <br /> <br /> <br />CITY MANAGER’S RECOMMENDATION <br /> <br />If the council chooses to respond to the County budget issues, then the City Manager recommends <br />funding additional jail beds, prosecution of non-person felonies and field law enforcement (total of <br />about $1.7 million). Other high priority services could be funded within existing resources, as described <br />in Attachment A. Budget Committee could be given the task of identifying the appropriate funding for <br />the service additions. <br /> <br /> <br />SUGGESTED MOTION <br /> <br />Move to direct the City Manager to bring to the Budget Committee recommendations that reflect the <br />policy decisions made by the council. <br /> <br /> <br />ATTACHMENTS <br /> <br />A.
