The funds were to be split evenly between the
neighborhoods and administered under the guidelines of the NMG program.

On May 16, 2007, the Budget Committee passed a motion to make available $6,000 in funds allocated to
the FY08 Olympic Trials for use by the Amazon, West University and Harlow neighborhoods for
activities or projects related to mitigating impacts from the trials, subject to NMG guidelines.

On April 14, 2008, the City Council approved the funding proposals submitted by the Amazon, Harlow
and South University Neighborhoods. At that time, Fairmount Neighbors had not submitted an
application. The NMG advisory committee agreed to grant the neighborhood an extension to allow time
to develop a grant proposal. The following is a summary of the Fairmount Neighbors proposed project:

Fairmount Eugene 08 Celebration and Art Exhibit ($3,000):
·The project involves a
neighborhood cleanup of Fairmount Park, chalk art activity on sidewalks adjacent to the park,
installation of larger than life size sculptures of track and field athletes crafted from recycled
materials and fallen branches by a neighborhood artist and a celebration event in the park on July
nd

2 with food and music.

The NMG advisory committee voted unanimously to recommend funding the Fairmount proposal.

RELATED CITY POLICIES
This initiative is consistent with the council’s Neighborhood Empowerment Initiative and supports the
following priorities identified in the Neighborhood Action Plan:

·Implement Neighborhood Matching Grants

·Promote neighborhood identity
Z:\CMO\2008 Council Agendas\M080527\S0805272D.doc
