I <br />~6~ <br />ORDINANCE 8705 <br />An Ordinance constituting and appointing the persons occupying the positio: <br />of Chief, Assistant Chief, and Captain of the Fire Department of the City of <br />Eugene, police officers of the City of Eugene, with authority to act as such, and <br />waiving the provisions of the Civil Service examination. <br />~P,fHEFcEAS, an emergency has arisen by reason of the United States being at <br />war and of the various defense preparations incident thereto, and <br />U':I-~REAS, the matter of fire. protection and discipline against fire hazards <br />in the City of Eugene requires. that the principal officers of the Fire Department <br />should be empowered to act as police officers, therefore <br />THE CITY OF EUGENE DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOY"dS: <br />Section 1. The Common Council hereby appoints and constitutes any <br />person occupying the position of Chief, Assistant Chief and Captain of the Eugene <br />Fire Department, ex-officio police officers of the City of Eugene, with authority <br />to act as such and waiving theprovisions of the Civil Service examination. <br />Section 2. No further compensation shall be paid such appointees but <br />these appoint,~ents shall automatically constitute the officers above named as <br />police officers of the City of Eugene and their successors in office shall likewise <br />be deemed appointed as police officers of the City of Eugene. <br />Section 3. N~kEAS, the United States of America is at vvar and the City <br />of Eugene is required with other municipalities to make all preparations for the <br />preservation of the community and to cooperate in every way with the United States <br />Government, an emergency is hereby declered to exist and it is declared to be <br />necessary for• the immediate preservation of the peace, health, and safety of the <br />City of Eugene that this ordinance take effect upon its passage by the Common <br />Council and it's approval by the Mayor, and it is so ordered. <br />Passed by the Common Council <br />this 15th day of December, 1941. <br />/s/JOHN FIELDS <br />City Recorder pro tem <br />Approved by the Mayor this <br />16th day of December, 1941. <br />/s/ ELISHA LARGE <br />Mayor <br />
