From Annete Gurdjian 09/20/2016
Dear CityCouncilandmayor,
I attended last night's forum wasnot able to arrive in time to sign up to speak. I wish
to say that I fully support a refinement plan for our neighborhood. I alsosupport the
motionbytwo citycouncil members, GeorgeBrownandMike Clark. Noone knows a
neighborhood better than its residents, whetherthey arehomeowners, renters,
business owners, landlords or developers.
Just as I amunqualified and incapable ofdecidingthefate of zoning or other changes
in theBethel or Trainsong neighborhoods, I feel that residents of other
neighborhoodswho are not familiar with South Eugene should not be deciding the
fateorchangesthat should occur in my neighborhood. Nor are city plannersuniquely
qualifiedto act of their ownaccord.
I mustsay, in the past, post Torrey administration, I looked favorably upon the city
government of Eugene. However, in view of1. the cityhall debaclewhere the oldcity
hall was needlessly and heedlessly torn down while fully functional BEFORE a plan
wasin place forits replacement, 2. thewasted timeand effort in the proposed SW-
SAZ, including the hiring of consultants to state what was so obvious, and 3. the
clingingof the outgrown City Manager type of government, my views have changed. I
am completely dismayed and my views on city government have turned negative. I
feel that the city is being mismanaged (and we cannot vote the city manager out of
office), and a lot of money is beingwasted. I also feel that the city is acting in a way
that givestheperception that it favors developers andmoneyed people over and
above good decision making.
Sincerely,
Annette Gurdjian
