Eugene City Council Retreat <br />February 25-26, 2005 <br /> <br />Votes Priority Issue <br />2 Develop and pursue alternative transportation projects inlieu of West Eugene <br /> Parkway <br />5 Reach an acceptable solution on transportation issues in West Eugene: Start <br /> something in 12- 18 months <br />2 Develop an economic strategy, not necessarily an "economic development" <br /> strategy, but maybe an "economic prosperity" strategy <br />1 Review and research all economic development practices for cost benefit ratio <br /> before adoption <br />0 Restore street lighting program <br />4 City Council position on racial issues - worksession to talk about race <br />1 Invest in steps towards community policing <br />1 Improve and measure response to property crimes - including bicycle theft <br />3 Increase police funding for staffing (Officers and Support Staff) <br />0 Identify the few historical buildings/sites (Shelton-Johnson-McMurphy House) <br /> that the City should support and figure out a strategy to "sustain" them <br />3 Complete natural resource study and initiate and make progress on <br /> roundtables upland wildlife habitat study <br />0 Sister City Program <br /> · Encourage revitalization <br /> · Add Mexican Sister City <br />2 Active government involvement in Sister City program <br />1 Latino Business owners - need resources for Latino business owners - to <br /> help with business questions <br />6 Push "Arts and Outdoors" as marketing theme for Eugene tourism <br />1 Review City Government practices for ways to increase equity and <br /> transparency and implement <br />1 Internal staff committee on sustainability goals in each department and <br /> evaluate <br />2 Make safety and preservation of existing parks as big a priority as new parks <br />5 Sustainability Advisory Committee or Commission to engage the public <br />1 Purchase valuable open space <br />1 Reprioritize maintenance and preservation before new building for capital <br /> project categories (streets, parks & facilities) <br /> <br />After completing the "Consensus minus Two" process considering any item that received <br />at least four affirmative votes, the following Priority Issues were agreed upon: <br />· Launch Neighborhood Initiative <br />· Conclude Discussion on City Hall/Police Building <br />· Facilitate the development of a hospital in Eugene's Central Core <br />· Complete and Consider Police Department Reviews and Implement Appropriate <br />Changes <br />· Push Arts & Outdoors as a theme for Eugene <br />· Re-staff Fire Station #9 <br />· City Council Position on Racial Issues <br />· Develop a Strategy to Help the Homeless in Eugene <br /> <br />Management Partners, Inc. / 3 <br /> <br /> <br />
