MINUTES

Eugene City Council
Work Session
McNutt Room--City Hall

January 24, 2005
5:30 p.m.

COUNCILORS PRESENT: Bonny Bettman, Betty Taylor, David Kelly, Gary Papd, George Poling,
Jennifer Solomon, Andrea Ortiz, Chris Pryor.

Mayor Kitty Piercy called the work session of the Eugene City Council to order.

A. ITEMS FROM MAYOR, CITY COUNCIL, AND CITY MANAGER

Mr. Poling noted Eric Forrest's resignation from the Budget Committee and indicated his intent to offer the
body a motion to appoint a replacement to the committee.

Mr. Poling, seconded by Mr. Kelly, moved to appoint Jon Dembowski to
the Budget Committee position being vacated with the resignation of Eric
Forrest.

Mr. Poling believed that it was best to bring Mr. Dembowski on the committee now to ensure the Budget
Committee had a full complement of members prior to the start of the annual budget review.

Ms. Taylor did not support the motion as she preferred to look at all the candidates' applications again
before taking a vote on the topic.

Ms. Bettman supported the motion since the candidate interviews had occurred fairly recently and the
individual in question had received some support. She agreed that it would be better to get someone on the
committee sooner rather than later.

Mr. Kelly also supported the motion as he recalled Mr. Dembowski's interview and thought his experience,
enthusiasm, and analytical ability would benefit the committee. He agreed that now was a good time to get a
new committee member in place.

Mr. Poling suggested the council consider developing a process to replace early exiting committee members
for the future.

Ms. Taylor reiterated her interest in having the full council reconsidering all the applicants.

The motion passed, 7:1; Ms. Taylor voting no.

MINUTES--Eugene City Council January 24, 2005 Page 1
Work Session
