It covers approximately <br />43.8square miles, with the Willamette River running through the heart of the city and the <br />McKenzie River joining the Willamette to the north of town. The elevation is 426 feet above sea <br />level and the city's topography features Skinner Butte to the north of downtown and the south, the <br />3 <br />landmark Spencer Butte, now a 310-acre city park. <br />Demographicsand Economy <br />In 2015, Eugene’s population for the entire Urban Growth Boundary (as defined in the Needs <br />Assessment, includes the City of Eugene and some surrounding areas) was 185,000. Over the next <br />20 years, it is estimated to grow to approximately 219,000, an increase of 18 percent. According to <br />the city’s comprehensive planning effort, Envision Eugene, this growth will primarily occur within <br />4 <br />the existing urban area, increasing the development density of the city.
