<br />M I N U T E S <br /> <br /> <br />Eugene City Council <br />Work Session <br />McNutt Room—Eugene City Hall <br /> <br /> May 8, 2006 <br /> 5:30 p.m. <br /> <br />COUNCILORS PRESENT: Jennifer Solomon, Andrea Ortiz, David Kelly, Betty Taylor, <br />Gary Papé, Bonny Bettman, George Poling, Chris Pryor. <br /> <br />The Honorable Mayor Kitty Piercy called the work session of the Eugene City Council to order <br /> <br /> <br />A. Committee Reports and Items of Interest from Mayor, City Council and City <br />Manager <br /> <br />Mayor Piercy reported that four representatives from Durango, Mexico visited Eugene over the <br />past week to study urban forestry. She displayed a gift received by the City from the Governor of <br />Durango. <br /> <br /> <br />Mayor Piercy then announced that Saturday, May 13, was Kids Sports Day and onThursday, <br />May 11, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. a public forum would be held at the Lane County Fairgrounds <br />(with the Osprey Group in attendance) to discuss the assessment of the West Eugene Parkway. In <br />conclusion, Mayor Piercy stated that due to the full agenda at the regular council meeting at 7:30 <br />p.m., the items pulled from the Consent Calendar would be addressed at the end of that meeting. <br /> <br />Ms. Ortiz spoke about the Durango visitors and stressed that the visit was a major step forward <br />for the Mexican environment. She explained that Mexico historically had not devoted significant <br />time to environmental issues and that the Governor of Durango was committed to creating a <br />template to address issues around the environment. Ms. Ortiz thanked staff for the effort it put <br />forth for this visit on such short notice. She then reminded the public to vote on May 16. <br /> <br />In conclusion, Ms. Ortiz reported that the Human Services Commission continued to address the <br />Community Health Center and how funds would be utilized wisely to provide services for that <br />facility. <br /> <br />Mr. Pryor reported that the Human Services Commission met on April 17 to discuss the budget <br />and receive a presentation from the HIV Alliance on the Needle Exchange Program. He <br />announced that the commission would hold a budget hearing at 5:30 p.m. on May 25, at a <br />location to be determined. <br /> <br />Mr. Pryor then reported on a recent Lane Metro Partnership meeting, and said that the partnership <br />determined it could do its work on a quarterly basis and revised its meeting schedule accordingly. <br />Mr. Pryor opined that this decision would make meetings more effective. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />MINUTES—Eugene City Council May 8, 2006 Page 1 <br /> Work Session <br /> <br />
