<br />RESOLUTION NO. 4710 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING A NATIONAL INTERCITY <br />PASSENGER RAIL SERVICE. <br /> <br />The City Council of the City of Eugene finds as follows: <br /> <br />A. The City of Eugene and the nation require a balanced and efficient system of intercity <br />transportation alternatives, including air, rail, bus and automobile. <br /> <br />B. <br />Corridor. <br /> <br />The City of Eugene is the southern terminus of the Pacific Northwest High Speed Rail <br /> <br />C. Long-distance intercity passenger rail connectivity along the west coast and to the rest <br />of the nation is essential to the City's citizens and its economic viability. <br /> <br />D. Ridership on Amtrak's Coast Starlight and Oregon's Amtrak Cascades trains <br />continues to rise monthly. <br /> <br />E. The City of Eugene is working to acquire and restore its historic train station. <br /> <br />F. Congress is presently considering the future of the national intercity passenger rail <br />system and necessary capital funding authority for high speed rail corridors. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, based upon the above findings, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EUGENE, a <br />Municipal Corporation of the State of Oregon, as follows: <br /> <br />Section 1. The City of Eugene urges Oregon's delegation in the United States Senate and <br />House of Representatives to support the continued operations of a national intercity passenger rail <br />system, and necessary capital funding authority for high speed rail corridors. <br /> <br />Section 2. <br /> <br />This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption. <br /> <br />The foregoing Resolution adopted the 27th day of February, 2002. <br /> <br />:1:~A~ r bJ' a~J <br /> <br />City Recorder <br /> <br />Resolution - 1 <br />
