Amazon Park Concept Design

Overview
The Amazon Park Concept Design document provides direction for the management,
preservation, and enhancement of Amazon Park. Divided in to five sections, the
document includes an introduction; project background; public process description;
concept design summary; and priority improvement summary. Additionally, resource
information is included in the appendix such as concept drawings, workshop reports,
questionnaire results, workshop handouts and fact sheets.

Many themes arose throughout the development of this concept design, but none more
prevalently than the need to balance uses within the park. Amazon Park provides an
excellent site specific example of the many demands that we expect our public parks and
open spaces to fill. While we desire places to recreate, such as tennis courts, swimming
pools, soccer fields and playgrounds, we also want the quiet serenity of natural open
space which also contributes to a healthy urban environment. Both experiences are
valuable, and both find a home in Amazon Park. It is the presence of both of these
experiences that makes Amazon Park a rich and vital focal point of the south Eugene
community.

Amazon Park Concept Design Page I February 15, 2005
