Annual recommitment by City. <br /> <br />Council members voicing concerns of minority communities. <br /> <br />Acknowledge that racism exists. Say we’re not going to tolerate it. Keep saying it - not <br />just once in awhile. <br /> <br />LCC a few years ago - swastikas spray-painted. LCC couldn’t decide whether to keep <br />internal or to broadcast. Ways to get message out. <br /> <br />Part of City’s annual State of Union - to say that City is welcoming. Acknowledge <br />present issues. <br /> <br />City Council speaking out on issues. <br /> <br />Big thing - what Eugene did - re. Immigrant rights. Rest of Eugene may not know. <br /> <br />Report card. City employees, councilors - submerge themselves in our groups. <br /> <br />Isn’t there a group that takes action? <br /> <br />Yes, HRC. <br /> <br />Yes, they have council’s ear. <br /> <br />Can they include community members? <br /> <br />They do. <br /> <br />Right, people take turns. <br /> <br />They are pretty active. <br /> <br />Yes, they have three staff members. Bigger than Portland. Quite busy. David Kelly is <br />on HRC too. Pretty good communication. <br /> <br />Always folks who say they haven’t done enough. They are pretty active. <br />Success…I’m not clear what’s going on today <br />I don’t have a daily frustration with City. Get statistics on minority employment at City. <br />Those reports do exist. <br /> <br />More gang activity - not on radar. Again recognition. <br /> <br />City building relationships with communities. <br /> <br />My hope to develop bridge between government and community who doesn’t know who <br />we are.
