The commission will provide a brief update on its accomplishments of <br />FY06 and will highlight key work items for FY07 and FY08. The commission also plans to identify <br />several emerging issues for discussion at the meeting. The City Council will be asked to review and <br />approve the work plan. <br /> <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br /> <br />The City Council and the Human Rights Commission (HRC) hold an annual meeting to review the work <br />of the commission and discuss human rights issues in the community. The last meeting was held on <br />October 24, 2005. At that time, the City Council approved a 12 month work plan. The commissioners <br />are asking the City Council to consider the approval of a 24-month work plan that will carry the <br />commission through the fiscal year 2008. <br /> <br /> <br />RELATED CITY POLICIES <br />The City Council-adopted Vision and Goals Statement include two statements relevant to this item: <br />1)Safe Community – a community where people feel safe, valued and welcomed, and; <br /> <br />2)Effective and Accountable Municipal Government – a government that works openly, <br /> <br />collaboratively, and fairly with the community to achieve measurable and positive outcomes <br /> <br />Additionally, many of the activities discussed in the Human Rights Commission annual report and <br />included in the proposed work plan are related to the City Council Priority Issues on Race, <br />Homelessness, and the City Hall Complex. <br /> <br /> <br />COUNCIL OPTIONS <br /> <br />The council has the option to amend and/or approve the Human Rights Commission Goals and Work <br />Plan for FY 2007/8. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> L:\CMO\2006 Council Agendas\M060911\S060911B.doc <br />
