tothepublicthroughalinkontheResourceInnovationswebsiteandpeoplewereurgedto <br />participateatmultipleSBImeetings.Thesurveyrespondentswerenotrandomlyselectedandit <br />isimpossibletoknowhowmanypeoplereceivedthesurvey.Therefore,asintended,thesurvey <br />resultsserveasameansofgatheringinformationfromthepublic,butarenotstatisticallyvalid. <br />Thesurveyresultsillustratetheopinionsofthe297respondents. <br />Basedonthedatawereceivedwedrewthefollowingconclusions(notethatunlessotherwise <br />indicated,thepercentagesgivenarevalidpercentagesandreferonlytothepeopleanswering <br />thatparticularquestion,notpercentagesofthetotalnumberofsurveyrespondents): <br />1.Thesectorsofgreatestinteresttotherespondentsofthissurveyarenaturalandorganic <br />foods,greenbuildingandrenewableenergy. <br />Respondents selected natural and organic foods, green building and renewable energy as the sectors <br />they thought deserved the highest priority for sustainable business and job development efforts in <br />Eugene. <br />Whenaskedtopickthesectorstheywantedtoreceivethefocusofbusinessandjobdevelopment <br />effortsinEugene,48%(105)ofrespondentsselectedgreenbuildingasoneoftheirhighest <br />prioritysectors,46%(101)ofrespondentsselectedrenewableenergyasoneoftheirhighest <br />prioritysectorsand48%(105)ofrespondentsselectedorganicandnaturalfoodsasoneoftheir <br />highestprioritysectors.Respondentswereallowedtopickasmanysectorsastheywanted,which <br />accountsforthepercentagesexceeding100%. <br />The greatest number of respondents answered questions in the natural and organic food, green <br />building and renewable energy sections. <br />Generally,99people(33%oftotal)answeredquestionsinthegreenbuildingsection;95people <br />(32%oftotal)answeredquestionsintheorganicandnaturalfoodssectionand91people(31%) <br />answeredquestionsintherenewableenergysection.Reuseandrecyclingandbiofuelsfollowed <br />fairlycloselybehindwith74people(24%oftotal)and72people(24%oftotal)respectively <br />answeringquestionsinthosesections. <br />2.Thetacticsforbusinessandjobretention,expansionandcreationmosthighlyfavoredby <br />surveyrespondentsincludegovernmentandinstitutionalpurchasingofsustainableproducts <br />andservices;incentivestosustainablebusinessesandforsustainablebusinesspractices;and <br />educationofthepublicandbusinesses. <br />Incentives and education ranked as the two most important strategies for retaining, expanding and <br />creating sustainable industries. <br />Whenaskedwhichpracticestheythoughtwouldbethemostimportanttoretaining,expanding <br />andcreatingsustainableindustries(questionthree),thegreatestnumberofrespondents,49% <br />(98),selected,?Incentivesforbusinessesthatencouragetheuseofsustainablepracticesorthe <br /> <br />
