3.Highcosts,lackofavailabilityandlackofinformationarethegreatestbarriersto <br />consumptionofsustainableproductsandservices. <br />In nearly every sector, the greatest number of respondents selected cost, lack of availability, and <br />lack of information as the barrier that prevented them from purchasing products in that sector more <br />extensively. <br />Theonlysectorsinwhichhighcosts,lackofavailabilityandlackofinformationwerenotthe <br />threemosthighlyselectedresponseswerebiofuelsandnaturalandorganicfoods. <br />Biofuelrespondentsselected,?Donothavetheproperequipment?withthegreatest <br />frequency64%(46respondents). <br />Naturalandorganicfoodsrespondentschose,?Other?above,?Notenoughinformation,? <br />with25%(24)ofrespondentsversusonly2%(2)ofrespondentsrespectively.Many <br />respondentsthatchose?Other?commentsforthissectionstatedthattheydopurchase <br />naturalandorganicfoods. <br />4.Correspondingly,respondentsfeltthatindustriesshouldprovidemoreinformation, <br />improveaccessibilityandlowercostinordertoretainandexpandtheirsectors. <br />In all but the reuse recycling sector, respondents selected variations on improving accessibility, <br />lowering cost and providing more information with the three highest frequencies. <br />Respondentsonlyvariedforthereuse/recyclingsector,inwhich39%(29)ofrespondents <br />selected,?Improveproductqualityandperformance,?asopposedtothe27%(20)ofrespondents <br />whoselected,?Reducecosts.? <br />Theprocessofappreciativeinquiryinvolvesafour-stepprocess,describedinsomedetailbelow: <br />TheSBIspentthesummerof2005throughearlyFebruary2006intheDiscoveryphase,seeking <br />ideasandinformationfromthecommunitythroughinterviews,roundtables,community <br />meetings,andonlinesurveys.Thegoalwastounderstandtheandto <br />generateideastoretain,grow,andcreatesustainablebusinessesandjobs. <br />InlateFebruaryof2006,theSBITaskForceshiftedtotheDreamphase,whichinvolvedusing <br />theinformationandideasthathadbeengeneratedintheDiscoveryphasetodevelopavision <br />oftheidealconditionsTaskForcememberswanttoestablishforsustainablebusinessandjob <br />development.Oncetheidealwasdescribed,TaskForcemembersmovedbackwardstoidentify <br />theclosestapproximationtotheidealthatcanbeachievedinrelativelyshortorder(1-5years). <br />InApriltheTaskForcecompletedtheDesignphase,whichinvolvedoutliningthe?design <br /> <br />
