<br />r:32 <br /> <br />-r <br /> <br />,I <br />:1 <br />II <br />,I <br />'I <br />~ <br />:-Sot <br /> <br />Council Chambers, Bugene, Oregon. <br />February 27, 1928. <br /> <br />Minutes of the adjourned meeting of 1ihe Common Council held February 27, 1928, <br />there being present Mayor A L Williamson [mdall members of the Gouncil. <br /> <br />Meeting called to order by the Mayor at 7;30 o'clock P.lVI. <br /> <br />Frank Fay Eddy 0 f the Play Ground G;ornmission appeared, and asked on behalf of <br />the Women's Clubs of the City that certain portions of some streets be set apart <br />at certain hours for roller skating for the children. Said matter was referred to <br />the S tree t Q ommi t tee. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Mr. Eddy also spoke of the matte of the expenditure of the P~ay Ground money <br />and gave a tentative budget as prepared. Such figures were rtaferred to the Finance <br />,0 ommi ttee for report. <br /> <br />Gommittee reports were call&d for: <br /> <br />, <br /> <br />The JUdiciary,.h)re and Later, Sewer and Printing Oommititees had no reports to <br />make. <br /> <br />The Finance Committee recommended the following estimatt3S bg paid, and by roll <br />call, such recommenda tion was approv'ed as follows: <br /> <br />Peter A Nelson, for construction of a sewer in Fairmoun'~ Heights from Heights <br />Boulevard along the East line of Block 6 tiO Sprint Bl vd., $8.50.37. <br /> <br />Oscar Snow, for construction of a sewer in alley between Lawrence and vVashingt n <br />Street from 13th to 14th Avenue, $385.85. <br /> <br />Hargraves and Lindsay, for constructi.on of a storm sewe.t' on Washington Street <br />from the Amazon to 20 th Avenue, 20th Avenue from Washington 'bo Jefferson; Jeffersa:l <br />trom 20th to 22nd Avenue, $8682.53. ' <br /> <br />The Street Committee reconunended the: petition to pave 16th Avenue from Olive <br />to LIncoln St. be granted. On motion, such recommendation wa:a adopted. <br /> <br />Samples of Street signs were shown and the cost thereof discussed. The matter <br />was held ove.r-. <br /> <br />...;~ <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />The petition to take off the table the petition to widen 11th Avenue was read <br />abd dusc~ssed. After discussion the same was referred to the Planing Oommission <br />to report at the next meeting of the Council. <br /> <br />The Police Oommittee state.d there is a vacancy in the position of Desk <br />Sargeant and recommended Julian Strait be appointed to fill such position and that <br />, is salary be increased from $125.00 to $135.00 per month and to date from January <br />1, 1928. On roll call, such recommendation was approved. <br /> <br />The Police a ommitteealso spoke of the neEld of addi tiona,l men on the force and <br />recommended the matter be placed in the hands of the FinancE~ Q ornmi ttee and the <br />Police Committee to report at the next meeting as to any pro]~osed method to pay <br />such men. On motion, such recommendation was approved. <br /> <br />II The Poliae q ommi t tea spoke of the need of a new car for use by the Police and <br />!I the matter was discussed. On motion, such recommendation was approved. <br /> <br />The Chief of Police reported on the condition of the JWlke and Hide Store on <br />West 8th Avenue and stated it is being renovated. <br /> <br />An estimate of $56.00 was presented by the Ford-Nelson lflill Co. for a complete <br />oounter, unpainted, for the Treasurer's Office. On motion, such counter was ordered <br />and such estimate accepted.' <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />A petition was received to pave Orchard. St. from Franklin Boulevard to 19th <br />Ave. su@fi matter was referred to the Street Committee. <br /> <br />A petition was filed to vacate the alley running North and. South from 20th <br />to 21st Avenues between Grundy and Jefferson Sts. Said matter wa-s referred to the <br />Street Gommittee and the Planing ~ommission. <br /> <br />~ <br />
