Laing to operate the <br /> Tourist Hotel at 70 East Broadway. <br /> Aerial permits were granted to J. F. Oldham for an aerial at 1660 Moss Street, <br /> and to Sergeant A. L. Dumont for an aerial at 458 East 11th Avenue. <br /> The City Eagineerreported on the; Murray petition relati.ve to the assessmeat <br /> for fill and sidewalk improvemen ts at t,he c orner of 5th Avenue and Hi~ Street, <br /> and after discussion, said matter was laid over until the next meeting of the <br /> Council. <br /> The Street Committee reported on tJ::e matter of the trees and sidewalk on the <br /> East side of Olive Street between 19th an'd 20th Avenue and recommended that the <br /> sidewalk be buil t on the property line. After discussion, such ma tter was duly <br /> carried, all voting ase, except Washburne, who voted nay. <br /> The Street Committee, thro~h the Engineer, reported on the .(1latter of' the <br /> petition of Mr. Ruch and others, aS1}:ing that Agate Street pavemen t between 13th <br /> and 14th Avenues pe repaired, the Engineer stating nothing could be done relative <br /> to such matter until spring. No fu.rthe r ac tion was hadd, <br /> The Fire & Water Committee, Health, Printing, and Police Committees had no <br /> reports to make. <br /> The viewers, in the proposed widening of Railroad Boulev~rd from Van Buren <br /> I Street to Ri vel' Road, made their report which was duly filed and an Ordinance <br /> adopt ing the same,was read the{ first time and lai d over. <br /> The Judiciary Committee presented an Ordinance creating stop streets oa 19th <br /> Avenue a~d 13th Avenue in the City, which was read the first time and referred <br /> back to trh1 Judi ciary C ommi ttee. <br /> '. <br /> A letter was received from L. L. Ray as Attorney for Mrs. Bertha Near, asking <br /> for damages for an alle~ed personal injury received on ~th Avenue East. Said <br /> matter was ~eferred to the Judiciary Committee and the City Attorney. <br /> The Ore&:on Seed & Feed .company a:'ppeared stating it desires to change its <br /> 1 0 ca ti.on to the Love property on 5th Avenue West, just west of Willamette Street, <br /> and asked th e Council for a permi t to install machinery and remodel the building. <br /> After diJ3cussion, the matter was referred to the Inspector of buildings, the <br /> City Attorney, and the Fire & Water Committee to bring in a report thereon,at the <br /> next me eting of the C ounc il. ' <br /> The following Resolution was offered and unanimously adopted: <br /> RESOLUTION- <br /> Whereas, litigation has been commenced against the City of' Eugene and the <br /> members of the Common Council and certain other officers because of the:- mSlnner <br /> of the construction of the outlet of the Polk Street sewer, and <br /> Whereas, such litigation is deemed to be of sufficient importanc.e to warrant <br /> the employment of additional counsel to assist the City Attorney in defending the <br /> I ' various defendants, <br /> Therefore, <br /> ~ <br /> BE I.T RESOLVED BY THE COMJl.WN COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EUGENE <br /> that Charles A. Hardy be employed to assist the City Attorney in defending the <br /> defendant s, other than LJ P.
