<br />You are hereby notified that Mayor H. E. Wilder has called a special meeu~ng
<br />of' the Gommon Council of' the City of Eugene, to meet in the Recorder-'s Office of
<br />said 'City, on thls Tuesday, January 22,1929, at 5:00 o'clock P. M.,and that the
<br />purpose of said meeting is to consider the question of granting a fra-nchise to
<br />Swift & Co.., or to the Southern Pacific Co.; or to the Oregon ~lectric Railway Co.,
<br />and to atlY 0'1' all of them, for the purpose of constructing railway tracks and
<br />switches across the intersection of 5th and High Streets, and along 5th Street and
<br />Streets or alleys adjacent the reto for the purpose of establishing physical
<br />connections wi th the proposed Swfi t & CO.J,'acking Plant.

<br />were present Councilmen Lamb,' Reid, Hendershott, Large and ZUalwalt; absent
<br />Washburne" Monroe, and Simon.
<br />
<br />The purpose of the meeting as contained in the notice to Councilmen was
<br />stated, and an Ordinaace was filed with ,the Recorder, granting to the Southern
<br />Pacific Co., a corporation, and to Swift & Co., a corporation, a franchise on
<br />5th and High Streets at the proposed Swift & Co. Packing Plant. and this ordinance
<br />read the f'i rst time and laid over.
<br />The following Resolution uas then read, and a motion made, seconded, and
<br />carried to adopt the same. .

<br />franchise or !'ight to lay construct and maintain railway tracks and. to operate cars

<br />and along 5th Av~nue East in the City of Eugene, Oregon, ,it being the intention

<br />intersection of High S~reet and 5th Avenue East in the City of Eugene.
<br />T".tlE~FORE, be it resolved by th e C'ommon C ounc ~l of the City of Eugene tha t
<br />the Recorder of said City be, and he is hereey, directed to publish notice of the
<br />proposal to pass such ordinance not less than'once a week for three consecutive
<br />weeks in the Etigene Guard, a newspaper of general circulation printed and published
<br />in the City .of Eugene, and in such notice to state the substance and nature of tre
<br />propo~ed ordinance, including the name of ~:he grante.e 'and to use at sast one
<br />hundred words in said notice, and that February 15th, 1929~ at the hour of 7:30
<br />o'clock P. M. at the office of the City Recorder in the City Hall in the City of
