<br />The request of Manerud-Hunting'jon Fuel Co. to erect a neon sign was
<br />referred to tlH~ Building Inspector. \
<br />
<br />The .Judiciary Committee, by Chairman Washburne, reported that the
<br />Committee had received plans of insuranco from a number of Insura.nce Companies,
<br />. and reo om.mendeli and m.oved that the City adopt the policy of insuring its
<br />employees on the basis of contribution b~T the City and employee, probably at a
<br />ratio of two-thirds payment by the e!l1plo~ree, and one-third by the City, the
<br />plan and de tail to bead op ted lat ere Moijionwas sec onded ani carried.

<br />Motion was made, seconded, and carried that all City Employees be
<br />brought under the Workman's Compensation Act, and paid for by the City, exclusive
<br />of the Water & Light Depar tment.
<br />
<br />A recommendation of the fire & Water Commi ttee by Mr. Hend.ershott
<br />Chairman, that the City permit the removal of a small residence on the Bonnett
<br />property at 7th and Charnelton to the rear of the same lot, was withdrawn, and
<br />the matter referred to the Building InspHctor und,er the ordinances of the City.

<br />Chai:rman Zumwalt of the Health Committee .r=eported th<t the Gaylord
<br />merchand ise had, been sold, an d that the building would be wrecked and removed
<br />by Mr. Gaylord about May first.

<br />The Street committee refel"red to the Council the request of the Service
<br />Station at, the Southeast corner of 11th and Oak to protect the. corner from traffic
<br />by building a b,older barricade around a sign at this corner. 'rhe' question of
<br />radius curves on Street corners was discussed in this connection, and the matter
<br />refereed to thE~ Ci ty Engine er for later l~eport.

<br />The J:,equest of Allen & Lewi s t () ins tall a pump in the cur bing near its
<br />drJ:veway for private use was considered, and the opinion prevailed tbat it should
<br />comply with all existing ordinances.
<br />
<br />The Street Committee l"ecommended that the Lincoln Street Amazon Bridge
<br />was in good condition, and. could be widened at a small cost. The matter was.re-
<br />ferred to the City Engineer to prepare plans accordingly.

<br />The Street Commit tee als 0 recommended the purchaS3 of an Aus tin Sweeper,
<br />and a moti on W.ElS made and seconded tha t the Ci ty purchase the same wi th the 'under-:-
<br />standing that t;he same should be accepted on trial, and purchased if found sat-
<br />isfactory. ThEl aye s and nays were called, Councilmen voting aye, Washburne, Simon,
<br />Lamb" Re id, Hendershot t, and Monroe; nay, Large, and Zumwalt.

<br />The l'equest of the City Planning Commission for an appropriation of
<br />$100.00 for thEl 'pur.pose of preparing a ffi!3'1l of Eugene and sUt'l"ounding ter.J:'i tory,
<br />was considered, and the Engineer expressed the opinion that the map could be
<br />prepared and aclditions traced for a comparativel.ir small sum, and on motion, the
<br />Engineer was iIlstructed to procure and complete the map for the Planning Commissio .

<br />The report of t.he Building Ins,pector fr'oCfi February 1st, to February
<br />18th, was placed on file.
<br />
<br />Appli.cation of Geo. W. Earle to conduct the McKen:z.ie Hotel, Nita MaChett
<br />to conduct the Star Hotel, Eva V. Steven~l to conduct a rooming house at 116 East
<br />Broadway, and Seth Laraway to conduct the LaraWa.ii Dance Hall, all having been
<br />approved by the: Chief of Police, were, on motion granted , and the Recorder instruct
<br />ed to issue licenses.

<br />Franlc Nombalais having delivered a bond to protect the City, it was
<br />on motion ordeJ:,ed that the Recorder issue a duplicate warrant No. ;)1826 for the
<br />sum of $D.OO in his favor, the original warrant having been lost.
<br />
<br />The application of Mr. Sherman A. Young for permission to connect his
<br />residence loca 1ied at the extreme edge of the City to the private sewer between
<br />22nd and 24th Street, Lot 2, Block 7, Melrose Addition, was read, and on motion
<br />referred to the Sewer Committee and City Attorney.
