<br />I Minutes of the adjourned meeting of the Gommon Council, held at the hour
<br /> of 7:30 o'clock P. M. July 28, 1930. There were present Mayor H. E. Wilder, cr:
<br /> and all members of the Council except Large and Reid. Meeting was called to ,f"

<br /> Mr. Washburne, Chairman of the Judiciary Committee, reported about a
<br /> sidewalk ordered in on Olive Street sometime ago and as yet it has not been
<br /> a t tended to. Mr. Clubb said that the permit had been taken out that afternoon.
<br /> The Street Committee reported regarding sidewalks wanted in the Chula
<br /> Vista District, and the Council ordered the walks installed as per plat prepared
<br /> by the City Engi ne er .
<br /> The street Gommittee also reported regarding the reports of fast driving
<br /> on North Jefferson Street. The Chief of Police, Mr. R. W. Hall, said that he
<br /> had been out there and checked up the driving and found no excess of speed, and
<br /> no action was taken in the matter.
<br /> The Fire and Water Committee reported regarding the Clean 'Up of the Park
<br /> back of the butte, and with some changes that Mr. Parker is making it seems as
<br /> - though things would be in satisfactory shape now. The Council ordered the Chief
<br /> of Poli ce to see that the old gentleman living in the cottage back of the butte
<br /> was removed from there.
<br /> At this time Councilman Reid appeared in Council.
<br /> A petition regarding the condition of the smoke stacks at the Eugene
<br /> Farmers Creamery was read, and the Health Committee was instructed to see if con-
<br /> di tions could be improved.
<br /> Mr. Calkins, City Attorney, reported regarding the refund of Mrs. Flanigan
<br /> but said that her attorney would be in town tomorrow, and no action was taken in
<br /> the matter until Mr. Calkins confers with her attorney.
<br />I Mr. Calkins also reported that Dr. Kester of Spring~ield had called him
<br /> up regarding the Mrs. Traschel case, and Mr. Calkins asked that Mr. Large be given
<br /> further time in the matter which was granted.
<br /> A letter from the k~yor of Springfield regarding the Northwest Aronauti-
<br /> cal Tournament to be held at the Springfield Air port August 4th was read, and a
<br /> motion was made, seconded, and carried that 1ugene cooperate with them as much
<br /> as possible.,
<br /> A letter from Earle J. Moore, protesting against, making sewer connections
<br /> was read, and the Building Inspector was instructed to see that proper sewer
<br /> connections were made.

<br /> A letter from the Lane County Abstract Co. regarding some property in
<br /> connection with the Air port was read, but no actioh was taken toward acquiring
<br /> any property at this time.
<br /> Reports of the Building Inspector, R. W. Rundlett, and the City Engineer,
<br /> W. C. Clubb, for the first six months of 1930 were read and placed on file. The
<br /> March, April, May, and June reports of the Library were read and filed.
<br /> A petition for the paving of the alley between 7th and 8th Avenues from
<br /> Olive to Charnelton Street was read, and on motion the alley was ordered paved by
<br /> the Council.
<br /> The finance committee recommended that warrants be drawn in payment of
<br /> the Engineer's estimates as follows:
<br /> The estimate of Oscar Snow for the pav ing of the alleys between lOth
<br /> and 11th Avenues and Oak and Pearl Streets. $2,791.07
<br /> The estimate of A. C. Mathews for the Grading and Graveling of 24th
<br /> Avenue from Emerald Street to Agate Street. $ 494.60
<br />I Motion was made and seconded that said estimates be allowed. The ayes
<br /> and nays were called, all councilmen present voting aye, nay, none, absent Large.
<br /> Three Sidewalk Imp,tovement Ordinances were read the first time, and passed
<br /> their second and third readings by title by unanimous consent under suspension of
<br /> the rule, and were placed on their final passage. The ayes and nays were called,
<br /> all Councilmen voting aye, nay, none, absent Large. The Ordinances were declared
<br /> passed and numbered c onsecuti vely from 7838 to 7840, both numbers inclusive.
